A 17-year-old girl riding as a passenger on a motorcycle was seriously injured when she apparently passed out and slipped off the motorcycle.
Michael Holveck, a 35-year-old from Melbourne who was driving the motorcycle, told Florida Highway Patrol investigators that he was driving west on U.S. 192 in Brevard County when he felt the teen, Valerie Wilcox, begin to slide off the seat.  Holveck told troopers that he attempted to hold on to her but was unable to do so.  Wilcox, also from Melbourne, fell and slid several feet before coming to a rest in the middle of 192. She told investigators that she felt dizzy and thinks she passed out.  Troopers said the teen was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center with what appeared to be “severe” injuries.

Jackknifed Semi Snarled I-4 traffic for Hours

A semi tractor trailer jackknifed on westbound Interstate 4 just before the morning commute reached peak levels and caused major backups in Seminole County.  The crash occurred about 6 a.m. in the right westbound lane just between E.E. Williamson Road and State Road 434, traffic authorities said.  The blockage stalled commuters for more than an hour and aggravated routine delays along I-4 as motorists squeezed past the wreck to continue into downtown Orlando.

Florida Motorcyclist is Seriously Injured from Truck Tire Blow Out

A 41-year-old Deltona man was seriously injured when he lost control of his motorcycle after a rear tire on a semi trailer beside him blew out on I-4 in Polk County Florida.  The crash occurred just after 2:30 p.m. yesterday, between County Road 557 and State Road 559, authorities reported.  Lawrence Eugene Miner was headed west in the middle lane on his 2004 Kawasaki, while the semi was westbound in the outside lane, police said.  When the left rear tire of the trailer blew out, Miner braked suddenly and lost control of his motorcycle, which overturned onto its left side, ejecting Miner.  Unaware anything had happened, truck driver Christopher James Arnold, 37, of Lakeland, did not stop, authories said. With help from witnesses, police were able to locate him through his company.  The accident remains under investigation.

Florida Police Chief’s Wife Runs Over and Kills Toddler

A Florida police chief’s wife ran over and killed a 22-month-old boy before a softball game at a Florida high school, officials said.
Pamela Bodenheimer
, 51, was reversing her SUV when she accidentally hit toddler Brady Hutto at Titusville High School.  It was reported that the accident happened as Brady’s mom was getting something out of her car and a friend offered to take the little boy to the softball field, according to Todd Hutchinson, of Titusville Police.

The toddler, who was the younger brother of one of the softball players, changed his mind and had started running back to his mother when he was hit by Bodenheimer’s vehicle.  ”It’s a parent’s worst nightmare,” Hutchinson added.  Bodenheimer, whose daughter was due to play in the game, told police she did not see the boy.  Her husband, Lake Alfred police chief Art Bodenheimer, told the newspaper his wife was “devastated”, adding, “All our prayers go out to a lot of people right now.”  The softball game, between the Auburndale Bloodhounds and the Titusville Terriers, was canceled in the wake of the tragedy.  No charges were filed, and the crash was ruled an accident, police said.
