Man Riding Scooter Killed in Daytona Beach Crash

A man was killed this morning when a car turned into the path of his scooter. The crash occurred about 6:15 a.m. at Mason Avenue and Derbyshire Road, police spokesman Jimmie Flynt said. The man, whose name is being withheld until relatives can be notified, was westbound on Mason Avenue when an eastbound car driven by Sarah C. Oneal of Daytona Beach turned into his path to go north on Derbyshire, Flynt said. The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the scooter and died of his injuries, Flynt said. The crash remains under investigation.

Biker Was Speeding, Possibly Racing, Before Fatal Crash

A man who was killed Monday when his motorcycle hit a car was speeding and may have been street racing. Jonathan Mcanallen, who turned 21 Monday, was northbound on Conway Road about 7 p.m. when his Harley-Davidson hit the right side of a southbound Cadillac that was turning left, troopers said. The crash happened at Marilyn Avenue, not a block south at Parkside Drive as troopers originally said. Both are a few blocks north of Gatlin Avenue. At least one witness told investigators that Mcanallen and another motorcyclist appeared to have been racing, said Sgt. Kim Montes, a Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman. Troopers are investigating. Mcanallen was traveling well above the posted 45 mph speed limit, Montes said. The driver of the car, John Barton, 31, of Orlando was not hurt.

Fiery Car Crash on I95 in Florida

In Brevard County Florida a car accident fire forced officials to temporarily block all lanes of Interstate 95 in Brevard County early Wednesday morning.
The accident happened near mile marker 169 near the Valkaria rest area. Traffic started moving again after 7 a.m. with one lane. The accident only affected the southbound side of the roadway, but it led to major delays in the area. No other information was immediately available.

Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash

A motorcyclist was killed Monday on his 21st birthday when a Cadillac turned left in front of his Harley-Davidsonin Orange County.

1 Extremely Critical, 2 Others Hurt in \crash that shut down I-4 west

Debris scattered across all travel lanes of interstate one person was airlifted to a trauma center in “extremely critical condition” and two others were injured in a two-car crash that shut down all the westbound lanes of Interstate 4 this morning.
The victims have not been identified, officials said. One was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, while the other two went to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. Sgt. Kim Montes said traffic is being diverted off of I-4 onto U.S. Highway 17-92, and motorists can re-enter the roadway via State Road 46 in Seminole County. Debris from the crash was scattered across all the travel lanes, and tow trucks were en route to remove a overturned vehicle.

Seminole School Bus Crash

A school bus with three children on board was rear-ended by another vehicle this morning in Sanford but no one was hurt, authorities said. Sanford police Sgt. Dave Morgenstern said the crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Airport Boulevard and 25^th Street. None of the children on the bus were hurt. One person in the other vehicle did suffer minor scrapes, he said.

Man Hit and Killed on I-75 in Florida

A 57-year-old Summerfield man was killed when he was struck by a pickup truck while working on his stalled Volkswagen that he had pulled onto the shoulder of the southbound lanes of Interstate 75.
Harry Benjamin Young Jr. was struck after the pickup driver apparently had a “medical condition” and swerved from the travel lane, knocking the VW into the roadway.

Seminole County Deputy Crashes Head On with SUV

A Seminole County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a head-on crash early Friday near Oviedo Florida.
The car accident happened at the intersection of Aloma Ave and State Rd 417. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the deputy was traveling west on Aloma and a sport utility vehicle attempted to turn onto SR 417. Both vehicles had a green light, and the vehicles collided head-on, troopers said. A light pole was also damaged in the crash. The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The deputy suffered only a scrape on his arm. It’s not known if anyone will be cited in the crash.

Five Injured in Bradenton Crash

Five people were injured in a two-car collision Wednesday night.
At about 7:05 p.m., a white Ford Explorer was heading south on 14th Street West with no headlights on. A black Chevy Malibu was pulling out of a car dealership near Orlando Avenue to make a left onto the northbound lanes of 14th Street West when it struck the SUV. The four people inside the SUV were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital and the man driving the Malibu was taken to Blake Medical Center.
All suffered minor injuries.

Fatal Drunk Driver Crash Kills Driver and Dog

An intoxicated driver and his large dog were killed after the van they were riding in on U.S. HWY17-92 in Haines City left the roadway and slammed into a cluster of oak trees.
Arnold Harold Gilliland, 65, who lives in unincorporated Polk near the Champions Gate Golf Club, was driving northbound on U.S. 17-92, north of Bates Road, in a gold 1999 Chrysler Town and Country Van at about 6:22 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway. It “slowly and gradually left its travel lane, crossed over the southbound travel lane and entered onto the west shoulder of the roadway,” a report from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said. ”The vehicle continued north along the shoulder, slowly making an arc as it moved down the shoulder into the drainage ditch,” the report added. That’s when the van hit the trees.
Paramedics declared Gilliland dead on the scene. ”Alcohol appears to be a factor. Also inside the van was the Gilliland’s very large dog. The dog died upon impact as well,” the report said.
An investigation is ongoing.
